Have you ever stopped
and wondered how you were standing.
Did the weight of gravity
weigh on your shoulders
so much that you thought
that you would crumble
and fall
as ashes in the wind.
Did the moments of yesterday
run in your mind
and make you ache?
Make you dizzy and amazed.
Do moments seem impossibly complex,
jumbled in the passages of your mind?
Staring into the air.
But you cannot see anything.
Memories haunting you.
Making you long for what was.
But what was is the question that plagues you.
What exactly was that night?
What exactly was the starlight?
Was it a candle or moonlight?
What was so intoxicating
that I couldn’t keep thoughts
straight in my mind.
Wrestling the shadows
that weigh on my mind.
What if I’d stayed
and we’d shared the night?
Would I be this lonely?
All wrapped up inside.
Reliving the memories
in my mind.
Would I take it back
to have peace of mind?
You complicate my life.
But you make me
